Dr. Adel Al-Zagh

Born in Nablus in 1956, he obtained his PhD in Economic Theory and Public Finance from the Free University of Berlin in 1994, his MA in Economics from Vanderbilt University in the United States in 1984, and his BA in Business Administration and Economics from Birzeit University in 1981. He is a professor of economics at Birzeit University, where he served as Head of the Department of Economics, Director of the MA Program in Economics during the period 1994-1999, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics during the period 1999-2004, Director of Planning and Development in 2005, and then Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the University during the period 2011-2016, and during the period 2021-2023. He is currently working on writing a book on global political economy. Dr. Zagha ​​was a visiting researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, and a visiting professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. It is worth noting that his last research work was within a research team with the United Nations Population Fund to prepare a report on the population in Palestine until 2050. He has research relationships with the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS), the Muwatin Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, and the Chris Mikkelsen Institute in Norway.
He has many publications, and his research interests include issues of global political economy, fiscal decentralization, the tax system, tax reforms in developing countries, issues of higher education quality and institutional performance, and issues of poverty and inequality. He has also provided many consultations to institutions from the public and private sectors in Palestine.
